The work, as described in the technical write-up, documentation provided and the verbal information provided by the claimant, indicates a systematic investigation (work performed) in attempting to resolve the technological uncertainty of using light-weight aluminum material through experimental development to be able to create an equally stable structure, thereby significantly reducing weight.
Work was also conducted to determine the degree of perpendicular while under load required of the mating roof panels while still maintaining water resistance. Different thicknesses and bend configurations were tested with all resulting in failure during load testing. They also failed water testing due to the deformation of the structure under load resulted in the expansion of the sealed joints. Failures resulting from this testing included the potential addition of a cross-member structure. The work carried out here was done using known techniques and methods that were readily available to the claimant and does not indicate evidence of a technological uncertainty.
